On peut bien entendu s’interroger sur la légitimité de la place acquise par les agences de notation dans l’économie internationale. Mais, tant qu’à faire, si on doit prendre en compte leur message, autant se déterminer par rapport à ce qu’elles disent vraiment et non par rapport à l’orthodoxie économique qu’on leur prête, parfois à tort. La puissance de celle-ci est pourtant si grande que bien des commentateurs continuent à discourir sur la décision de Standard & Poor’s (S&P) de dégrader la note de la France et d’autres pays européens en l’attribuant à une politique de rigueur qui aurait été jugée insuffisante.
